Plan of Action
Home Plan of Action The Greasers Research WVO Info

To give your new plan some importance you need to treat it like a real project with Goals, dates, projections even if it is just a Hobby.

After some initial research you should be able to have an overview vision of what you are going to have to do.  Put it on paper.  Make a plan of Action, and put together a Calendar of Action - This is your Plan to Attain some Freedom from the Oil Barons.

Your return on investment in a Grease4Fuel vehicle should be about 1 year; meaning that once you start driving your Grease4Fuel car it is usually about 9-12 months of normal driving before the Savings you have from Not buying Fuels and the cost of your kit equals out.  Check out the ROI Calculator at the FryBrid website.  Allot depends on all the costs of things you do to your vehicle, most of which will be from the grease kit itself.  But, after that my friend, you are driving for Pennies - Real cheap, not quit free (There is more to driving a vehicle than the fuel itself).  Nevertheless, you are no longer so hamstrung to the Oil Companies.  You can always try and find a GreaseCar for sale, but they are rare indeed.  You'll most likely have to do all the steps yourself.

For instance:  Step 1:  Usually you will have to get a diesel car, but you probably already have one or more gas vehicles.  So, for your first step in the project you will have to plan to find and buy a diesel vehicle.  This may involve the selling of a current vehicle.  This is where it all starts and you just have to make up your mind to Go For It.  Once you have the Diesel car not only are you committed, but it gives you the desire and momentum to continue.

Mark on your calendar the day you start looking for your diesel vehicle and mark your projected date you hope to attain it on.  This date is also your start date for continued research and getting in touch with others who are into Grease4Fuel any where around you.

Mark a time limit to get the car in working order and any needed adaptations for Bio-Diesel.  And Drive that new diesel to see if you really like it.  I had 2 diesels before putting $800. into my first WVO kit, but found a '87 SDL Mercedes car I liked even better.  I sold the first car and put nearly $2,000. into Grease fitting the SDL Mercedes car.  Keep in mind that you may not find an old diesel that is possible to be a really great car for you.  They are old and used, and you just do the best you can.

You should research and have a good idea which Grease kit you are willing to pay for, or Build yourself.  Either way it is a process that will take a little time.  Even if you decide to buy a kit and have it installed - I've seen the job take 6 months to get it done !  Use this time to find your grease sources (more than one), and develop your filtering, holding, filling arrangement.  Don't worry about getting the "best" filter, holding, & filling components.  There are lots of ideas out there.  Start as simple as you can to get one operational.  You can always add to it, and develop the system better over time.  I started with a very simple filter bag hung over a 5 gallon bucket and poured it into my tank.  It worked just fine for about 9 months until I started working with my buddy Matt.  Matt wanted a more elaborate system.  (even with Matt's improved elaborate system, we have changed the components and system over and over again trying other ideas.  Our filter system has become an ongoing development project.  It is fun having a buddy to work with.)   The point is to get something started that works - start simple.  Don't get bogged down.

Just Do It.  Get a diesel rig, find oil supply, make simple filter system and drive!

Most folks look at this as a hobby/experiment and they get older diesels.  Nice because they are cheap, However, consider the reliability of the vehicle you get.  An old car could be a money pit above and beyond what you are going to do to it.  Choosing a decent enough old car is fun.  Greasing a new spendy car is kinda crazy - but if you have the dough - Go For It.  An old Mercedes diesel would be a good choice.

The Ducks that you need to line up:

  1. Find a diesel vehicle
  2. Understand the concept of the diesel engine
  3. Establish a WVO (waste veggie oil), supply from restaurants
  4. Buy or make a WVO conversion kit for your diesel vehicle
  5. Make/buy a SVO filtering & Pumping system
    • It is great to make contact and find other people of like mind living close enough to you so a few folks can start working together helping each other to do things like; set up little co-op filtering spot, collect wvo, filling location, etc.

WVO will come from local restaurants, deli's, or any business that fries in vegetable oil. Like going out for food to go, except this will be WVO 2 Go - or - Grease2Go;)

There are many coops forming around the country. The Grease4Fuel concept is slow in it's organization. Please help us by telling us about any co-ops or WVO groups you find so we may add them to our list.
